This Thursday, is our national observance of Thanksgiving Day. Though a secular observance, the day surely draws most of us to the highest form of prayer, Prayer of Thanksgiving.
As we approach Thanksgiving Day I am grateful to God for the people of St. Gerard that I am privileged to work with and journey with on our common pilgrimage to God’s kingdom. I am truly grateful for our talented, dedicated and hardworking staff. I give thanks daily for the 500 plus parishioners who volunteer for liturgical ministries, the hundreds who serve on commissions and volunteer for our many ministries and activities. I am grateful for the countless members who daily pray for St. Gerard Church and its ministries and the many who volunteer at various community outreach programs and activities.
If anyone wants a glimpse of the generous spirit of St. Gerard Parishioners, drop in on the Thanksgiving Community Dinner the parish hosts in Fr. Weber Hall. Hundreds of parishioners work together to purchase food, cook the meal, set up the hall, transport the guests and clean-up afterwards. How can I not be grateful.
For further witness to the generosity of St. Gerard Parishioners, drop by Fr. Weber Hall after the 11:00 am Mass today (Nov. 22) and see the mountains of thanksgiving food baskets that will be delivered between 12:00 - 2:00 pm.
I invite all parishioners to join me Thanksgiving morning at 8:10 am for Mass. The Eucharist is our highest form of thanksgiving. Come and join me in thanking God for the many people who bless our lives and for the countless other blessings that he has given us.
