It happens that Mother?s Day falls on Good Shepherd Sunday which strikes me a appropriate. Jesus embraces the image of the Good Shepherd to communicate the depth of his love and care for us (his sheep). He knows us by name; he feeds us; he keeps us safe; he will lay down his life for us; and he will lead us safely home.
The qualities of the Good Shepherd are very evident in many of our mothers. They probably know us better than anyone. They feed our bodies and our spirits. The would do anything to keep us safe. They truly would give their lives for their children and often do, in ways real and concrete, in the day to day sacrifices they make for their children. Any not only do they create a home for us, their ultimate joy would be for their children to be at home in God?s kingdom.
Join me in thanking all mothers on this their special day. May God grant them every blessing.
Wax Museum
This past Tuesday, May 6, the 8
th graders of St. Gerard School produced their annual ?wax museum.? Each student chose a famous American, researched the person?s life and contributions, and then put together a poster display of the person?s life and accomplishments, prepared a narration for those who stopped by, and, to top things off, dressed in clothing to fit their character. Depicted were presidents, sports figures, pioneers in medicine and science, movie stars, and even a mobster (Al Capone).
The 8
th graders did a masterful job of communicating their characters, and all of us who toured the ?wax museum? left better informed and even entertained. Job well done 8
th graders! You display the kind of talent that might one day place you in a future 8
th graders ?wax museum? display.
