On Wednesday, June 3, we had a gathering of parish ushers and greeters. Ninety veterans and a number of people seeking to volunteer for service in one of these ministries, came to the meeting. I am grateful for their presence and interest in helping us fine tune our hospitality to parishioners and visitors alike.
The Greeters and Ushers are hospitality ministries. In welcoming people to church and attending to them and their needs, they help our parish to welcome all as Christ. These ministers are often the first people encountered by those who come to the doors of our church. First impressions are so important. As Christ welcomed all into his life, we want it made clear that all are welcome at St. Gerard.
Thanks again to all who came to the June 3 meeting. If we want St. Gerard to be a friendly and hospitable parish, we have to all commit to helping develop a “culture of hospitality”. I am pleased that so many of our ushers and greeters are willing to take the lead.
