Monday, November 2, is All Souls’ Day, a day of remembrance and prayer for the faithful departed. It is our custom at St. Gerard to have a Mass of Remembrance at which we specifically remember parishioners who have died since the last All Souls’ observance.
At this year’s All Souls’ observance, more than 80 deceased parishioners will be remembered. Their names will be listed on scrolls that will hang in the Gathering Area on the wall near where we typically wake the deceased before the start of their funeral Mass ( Waking Wall ).
I encourage all parishioners to try to attend the 7:00 pm Mass of Remembrance on Monday, November 2. Let us join together in praying for our deceased St. Gerard brothers and sisters as they journey to God’s kingdom. May we never forget those who have helped St. Gerard grow and flourish. Your presence will also be a tremendous support for family members and friends who are grieving. We invite those close to the deceased to come to the All Souls’ Mass. They need to know that St. Gerard Parish never forgets our deceased loved ones. They also need to know that we are holding them in their grief before the Lord who is the resurrection and life.
