We begin with 9am Mass with dismissal after the Homily (to discuss the bible readings further in the classroom), then after a short break we will have class about the Sacraments of Vocation (Marriage and Holy Orders).
We begin with 9am Mass with dismissal after the Homily (to discuss the bible readings further in the classroom), then after a short break we will have class about Human Dignity, Mercy and Catholic Social Teachings.
SCHEDULE CHANGE! We will now start class at 9am (today's subject: the Season of Lent), then we will go to the 11am Mass with dismissal after the homily to discuss the bible readings further. We should be done around noon. Today we will also go over what is coming next week: the Rite of Election!
Because we have a very important event this afternoon (RITE OF ELECTION!), we will not have class in the morning. But we will meet for 11am Mass and have our dismissal with discussion until noon. (note: if you can't make the 11am Mass, just go to Mass on your own time sometime this weekend, as the Rite of Election is NOT a Mass).
The Rite of Election is another important step on the journey to become Catholic! Here we will meet the Bishop, along with others who have been on the same journey as you! Where it occurs changes every year, but this year it happens that St. Gerard is hosting, so you'll be HOME! Please arrive around 2:30pm with your sponsor/godparent so you can get seating/parking. There will be almost 30 other parishes participating at this location!
We begin with class on Prayer. We will look at the many ways we can communicate with God and have a chance to practice some of those methods. In addition we will go over what is called the scrutiny rites for those preparing for baptism. Then we head to 11am mass and are dismissed after the homily for further discussion about the bible readings at Mass.
We begin with class about Moral teachings of the church, forming and examining our consciences and virtues. Then we head to 11am Mass, at which those preparing for Baptism will participate in the First Scrutiny Rite. What is THAT?! It is a beautiful Rite to prepare for baptism by praying for you, asking God to protect you from evil, and strengthen you as you approach the day of your baptism. There are 3, and they occur the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of Lent. After, we will still discuss the readings until Mass is over.
Tonight is about RELAXING and REFLECTING, giving a moment for yourself, no distractions! We begin with Mass where we will present the Creed to those preparing for Baptism. Then dinner in the Parish hall, where we will hear from some previous RCIA 'grads'. We will also offer time for prayer (Adoration) in church, and discussion time.
We begin with class about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, including a walk-through. Then we head to 11am Mass, at which those preparing for Baptism will participate in the Second Scrutiny Rite.
Well, it's spring break, so we aren't meeting on Sunday! However, because the 3rd Scrutiny Rite is a required part of baptism for adults, those preparing for baptism will meet at the 4:30pm Mass Saturday to participate in the Rite.
Our class today will introduce what we are celebrating today and this week: Palm Sunday and Holy Week! Hopefully understanding these traditions will help you fully immerse into the beauty and power of this week! We then head to 11am Mass and after the homily are dismissed to discuss the readings further for the last time! (The next time we are together for Mass is at the Easter Vigil!)
