In praise of our parish youth and those who encourage and support them:
One of my greatest joys as Pastor is witnessing the accomplishments of our parish young people. Some recent examples include: four of our parish elementary boys basketball teams played in the Championship games at Lansing Catholic High School today; ten of our parish young men will compete in the “Big Man for Christ” competition next Sunday, January 26; the singing, reading and overall participation at this past Friday’s pre-K through 2nd grade Mass was exceptional; scores of St. Gerard children have had their drawings on the weather page of the Lansing State Journal; the religious education and St. Gerard School second graders did exceptionally well last week as they received their First Reconciliation; and the list goes on.
The accomplishments of our parish youth in faith formation, academics, the arts, athletics and more are only possible because of the commitment of their parents, teachers, coaches and the many other adults who pray for them, work with them, encourage them and challenge them. May our young people always find in the adults at St. Gerard, credible examples of adults whose lives of Christian witness draw our youth to become the best that God intends for them.
