On Sunday, February 9, we observed World Marriage Day at St. Gerard Parish with a special Mass at 9 a.m. followed by a Champagne Brunch in the Parish Hall. 80 parish couples celebrating significant anniversaries in 2014 were our guests of honor. 39 of the 80 couples were celebrating 50 or more years of marriage.
In this weekend's Gospel from Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus said:
"You are the light of the world...Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."
I am truly grateful to the many couples in our parish who honor the marriage promises they made on their wedding day. "For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health" they remain faithful. These men and women serve as inspirations and lights for us all as we seek to live out our Christian vocations with fidelity. Thank you for letting your light shine before us all. Your "good deeds" truly give glory to God.
