At all the Masses this weekend we will listen to a message from Bishop Boyea inviting us to participate in DSA 2016. The DSA supports more than 100 diocesan ministries that enrich parish life, strengthen families, inspire and educate future generations of our faith. The many services and ministries supported by our DSA donations typically go beyond the scope of what our parishes can provide. Some of the services include Catholic Hospital Ministry to Catholic patients at Sparrow and McLaren Hospitals, support for St. Vincent Catholic Charities, enrichment for teachers, catechists and Catholic School and religious education programs.
The Diocesan Goal is $4,700,000. St. Gerard’s goal is $214,039. Though our goal is high, last year St. Gerard Parishioners donated $207,297. Having done so well last year, this year’s goal is not out of reach.
After having heard the Bishop’s appeal this weekend, you will receive a letter with a DSA brochure and pledge envelope asking you to consider a pledge or gift. Begin already to contemplate what you can do to support Diocesan services. I hope we can approach 100% participation. Whether your gift is large or small, plan to participate. Together we can reach our goal and ensure the continuation of the ministries made possible by DSA.
