Confirmation September 20

Bishop Boyea will be at St. Gerard to confirm ninety young people from our parish on September 20 ^th at 2:00 pm. Please pray for those soon to be confirmed.

When I interview Confirmation candidates in anticipation of being Confirmed, I ask then to name the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Piety, Fortitude/Courage and Fear of the Lord). Then I ask them which gift they most need. Most say Fortitude/Courage is the gift they most desire.

Our young people face serious challenges as they seek to live their faith. Sometimes they are ridiculed or derided by classmates and peers. They also live in a world where Christian beliefs about sexuality, respect, concern for the unborn and vulnerable and so much more are undermined. Understandably they pray for courage.

Join them in praying they be gifted with courage. Also, let them see in us a people of faith who live what we profess with courage. Our credible witness can encourage them as they strive to do what is right.
