Marriage is the unique Sacrament which binds one man and one woman together in a covenant under God and His Church. It is a Sacrament of vocation, a response to a specific calling that God has placed in the hearts of a couple. It is a bond that lasts for life which is permanent, faithful, and fruitful. Marriage is not just about two people, but is the foundation of the family, the "domestic church," the most basic and foundational structure, not only for the Church, but for all of society.
We ask that you contact the Parish Office before setting your Wedding date. Marriage arrangements are usually made 9-12 months in advance of the wedding. These arrangements are made by scheduling an appointment with Deacon Jim Corder. The preparation process includes: meeting with a mentor couple to discuss issues and concerns that married couple's will face; participation in the the "Marriage Prep Classes" held here at St. Gerard, which includes, the basics of the Catholic faith, the Sacrament of Marriage, Natural Family Planning and the practical aspects of married life. They also attend "A Lasting Promise" which is a six hour program on Marriage. Couples are also encouraged to actively participate in the planning of their own wedding liturgy.
The Marriage Prep Class is held in the Adult Education Rooms (across from the Parish Offices). The Class is scheduled from 9-3:30 and we take an hour break for lunch. If you have questions please contact Deacon Jim at jcorder@stgerard.org
